Joi AI has changed substantially. It is no longer a simple text-only AI girlfriend. In our July 2026 test, Joi combined an adult character marketplace, a detailed companion creator, private chat, AI images, videos, gifts and community content. Its strongest feature is not celebrity roleplay or sheer explicitness: it is the unusually precise way you can define who your companion is and how she relates to you.
That breadth comes with two important caveats. Premium access still uses a second virtual-currency layer for many media actions, and the visible “Celebrity” category raises legitimate questions about consent, likeness rights and impersonation. We explain both clearly below.
Joi AI review: our verdict
Our score: 9.0/10. Joi is one of the most complete NSFW companion platforms we have tested, especially if you want to design a specific fantasy rather than choose a generic premade character. The relationship, occupation and personality controls create a stronger starting context than most competitors. The image and video tools are extensive, but the coin economy makes the real cost less predictable than the subscription headline suggests.
- Best for: adults who prioritize deep character and roleplay customization
- Main strength: relationship + occupation + personality combinations
- Main weakness: subscription and coins create a layered paywall
- Content: clearly adult and NSFW; 18+ only
- Legal caution: avoid creating or sharing recognizable real people without documented consent and rights
What is Joi AI?
Joi is a web-based AI companion and adult-content platform operated by Novi Limited. It mixes three experiences: a catalog of community-made characters, one-to-one AI chat, and creation tools for custom companions and synthetic media. The interface separates Explore, Gallery, Create AI and Chats, so it feels closer to a complete entertainment platform than a single chatbot.
Premade characters cover realistic, anime, fantasy and LGBTQ+ styles as well as dominant, kinky and other adult categories. Conversations can include generated photos or videos and virtual gifts. Joi also advertises group chat and media-generation functions, although availability and cost can vary by account, plan and region.

Character creation is Joi’s real advantage
Joi’s creator goes beyond choosing a face and body. The most useful step is defining a narrative framework before the first message. You can set the companion’s relationship to you, her occupation and her personality, then add adult preferences. This gives the model a practical role from the beginning and reduces the amount of prompting needed to establish a scenario.
Relationship
Choices observed during our test included stranger, colleague, girlfriend, wife, next-door neighbor, boss, friend, ex and friend with benefits, plus several taboo-themed scenarios. “Boss” or “next-door neighbor” is not just a label: it supplies a ready-made social dynamic that can shape tone and roleplay.

Occupation
The occupation list is similarly broad: real-estate agent, bartender, model, actress, police officer, professor, personal trainer, flight attendant, librarian and many adult professions. Occupation is a meaningful differentiator because it adds vocabulary, setting and implied behavior to a character rather than merely changing her appearance.

Personality and preferences
Personality options include seductive, playful, dominant, submissive, passionate, loyal, mysterious, adventurous, empathetic, sweet, shy, creative, quirky and witty. You can then choose up to three preferences for the adult roleplay. This layered setup is Joi’s best idea: “playful bartender next door” and “dominant executive boss” become meaningfully different prompts rather than two cosmetic skins.

Chat, images and video
Joi supports adult conversation and roleplay without pretending to be a wellness-oriented companion. The experience is direct, visually polished and designed to lead toward media. In chat, a character can send an image and offer a video action; virtual gifts and private media sit close to the message field. This makes the product engaging, but also very transactional.
The Gallery contains separate image and video generation modes. You can select a base character, write a scene description, add a negative prompt and browse community creations. The service explicitly markets this as an uncensored NSFW generator. Some previews remain locked until subscription, and generation consumes coins or “Neurons” depending on the version of the interface.

Joi AI pricing and coins
Joi’s price varies by country, promotion and billing term. During our July 2026 test, the checkout displayed approximately $13.99 for one month, $20.99 total for three months with a promotion, and $47.99 for twelve months with the HELLO50 promotion. The annual screen presented this as $0.92 per week and included 1,500 coins per month. Taxes may be added.
| Plan observed | Displayed price | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| 1 month | About $13.99 | Shortest commitment; promotion may differ |
| 3 months | About $20.99 total | Promotional price observed |
| 12 months | $47.99 total | HELLO50 offer; 1,500 coins/month shown |

A Premium subscription does not make every action unlimited. Joi’s terms explain that additional media uses virtual currency, with costs depending on the theme and format. This is the main pricing weakness: a heavy image or video user can spend more than the subscription price. Treat the included monthly balance as a media allowance, not as unlimited generation. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled in account settings.
Celebrity simulations: legal and ethical warning
We do not recommend creating, publishing or monetizing an AI character that copies a real person without explicit, documented permission. During our test, Joi visibly offered a “Celebrity” filter. We have deliberately not reproduced names or recognizable faces here, and we cannot independently verify the rights or consent attached to every character listed on the service.
Joi’s own Terms of Service prohibit ordinary users from uploading content that may infringe third-party copyright or likeness rights, and prohibit impersonation or misrepresenting an affiliation. Its Safety page says featured media is not deepfake content and that agreements exist with featured people. Those statements are reassuring at platform level, but they are not proof that any specific community-created simulation is authorized.
The legal position depends on the country, the use, consent, labelling and whether the content is intimate or deceptive. In the EU, Article 50 of the AI Act introduces transparency duties for deepfakes from 2 August 2026. In the United States, the federal TAKE IT DOWN Act addresses certain non-consensual intimate digital forgeries. Rules on publicity, privacy, defamation and intellectual property can add further liability.
This is a practical editorial warning, not legal advice. If a project involves a recognizable real person, obtain specialist advice and written permission before creating or distributing it.
Privacy and account safety
- Use a unique email address and password and enable any available account security controls.
- Do not share real addresses, workplace details, financial data or identifying intimate information in chat.
- Remember that uploaded prompts and media may contain personal data; read Joi’s Privacy Policy.
- Cancel before renewal in account settings if you do not want the next billing period.
- Read the refund policy before buying coins: eligibility is limited and used virtual currency may not be refundable.

Final verdict
Joi earns its 9.0/10 because its creator turns relationship, occupation and personality into a coherent fantasy framework, then connects that character to chat, images and video. It is a strong choice for adults who want an explicitly NSFW, highly configurable experience. Budget-conscious users should watch coin consumption carefully, and everyone should avoid real-person simulations unless consent and usage rights are unequivocal.
