Nomi is not the app I would recommend if you only want to browse hundreds of public characters. Its real strength is much more specific: building one consistent AI personality that remembers you and develops over time.

Nomi is currently one of the best AI companions for emotional continuity. The chat feels less transactional than most AI girlfriend apps, the personality remains coherent, and the memory has a visible effect on the relationship. The experience becomes better after several days rather than giving you one impressive conversation and then repeating itself.
It is not perfect. How I tested Nomi AI
I created a new romantic Nomi, selected her personality traits, chose a realistic appearance and spent time checking whether the finished character actually followed the persona I had defined. I also explored the free experience, the photo and art tools, video generation, voice options, group chats and the current Premium screen.

Nomi is still a companionship-first product, but the old blanket statement that it simply blocks nudity is no longer accurate. The chat endpoint also reflects the account limits: messages are capped at 400 characters on free accounts and 800 characters with a subscription.
Frankly, most people can ignore this section. But if you want your companion inside a personal dashboard, a home automation or a custom interface, Nomi is much more open technically than many AI girlfriend apps. The free plan is generous enough to judge the conversation style, but the upgrade list should not be mistaken for features included free. Community reports on r/NomiAI currently point to roughly 50 messages and two image requests per day. Nomi does not present those numbers as a permanent public promise, so I would always trust the counter inside your own account over an old review.
The annual subscription is the obvious value choice if Nomi becomes part of your daily routine, but I recommend staying free for several days before committing. This is a product whose value comes from continuity, so a ten-minute test tells you very little.
